Our story
Matasia Nursing Home is an accredited health facility in Matasia centre, along the Ngong–Kiserian Road in Kajiado County, about 30 km from Nairobi. When it opened in 1989, Matasia was a remote, underserved area where families relied on traditional medicine and health centres that were hard to reach.
The community’s overwhelming support helped a small outpatient clinic with two staff grow into a 24-bed inpatient facility offering maternity, maternal and child health, family planning, primary health care, and selected specialist services.
Today the Ministry of Health grades Matasia Nursing Home as a Level 3B facility, open around the clock, with laboratory, pharmacy, and ultrasound services supporting our clinicians. We serve Karen, Ngong, Lower and Upper Matasia, Kiserian, Rongai, and the grazing lands along the Kiserian–Magadi road.
Our Founder
Mrs Martha Wamae
Fondly known as “Delight”
Martha served as a senior nursing officer in a number of reputable Nairobi hospitals and trained in midwifery and infection control in Kenya and the United Kingdom. Seeing how hard it was for families in suburban Nairobi to reach basic health care, she opened the Umoja Health Clinic in 1987 and, two years later, founded Matasia Nursing Home at the foot of the Ngong Hills.
The same spirit of mission led her to run a free mobile clinic for Maasai homesteads through He Touched Me Ministries International (HTMI).
